There’s no shortage of things to see and do in Whistler but if you’re like me, you like to push the boundaries on occasion. Here are three of my favourite Whistler adrenaline activities to add to your bucket list for your next long weekend or girls getaway.
1) Ziplining in Whistler
Lucky for us there is not one but TWO companies that offer zipline tours in Whistler. Ziptrek Ecotours has the longest zipline in Canada and the US (called Sasquatch), plus several other tours. You zip back and forth between the mountains until about mid mountain, and they teach you all about the local environment as you go so it’s really interesting. Superfly Ziplines, located north of the main village, has more of a forest experience. The best part is you can zip side-by-side with a friend – so fun! Prices for both Whistler zipline tours start from CAD $129.
2) Whistler Skydiving
If you’re going to jump out of a plane, then you better have a spectacular view to enjoy on the way down. Or at least that’s what I told myself when I made my way to Whistler Skydiving (which is actually located in Pemberton, about 20 minutes north of Whistler). You receive a thorough safety orientation and will jump tandem with a professional instructor (so your harness is literally attached to theirs). The ascent in the small G-BUS plane feels like eternity but in reality it only takes 20 minutes or so to reach an altitude of 10,500 feet and before you know it, you’re getting ready to pitch yourself out of the plane. You free fall for about 45 seconds before opening your parachute at about 4,500 feet. It is seriously the most exhilarating experience and the ideal adrenaline junkie adventure. Prices start from CAD $289; video and photos are extra but I highly recommend them.
3) Whistler Bungee Jumping
I’ve bungee jumped in a few places around the world but bungee jumping in Whistler is one of the best. The mountain views from the platform overlooking the glacier fed Cheakamus River below just adds to the extraordinary experience, and you’ll soon know why it’s regarded as one of the most scenic bungee jump experiences in the world. It’s located south of Whistler about 15 minutes by car so you’ll need your own transportation there. Whistler Bungee jumping prices start from CAD $140.
