Every time I visited Scandinave Spa or biked nearby as I often did, my curiosity about the unique place to stay at the neighbouring yurts at Riverside Resort in Whistler was piqued. Just a four minute drive north of Whistler village, its such a hidden gem. So we decided to experience them ourselves with a little glamping staycation!
Read on about this glamping in Whistler:
We checked in at the Riverside Resort reception office where the campsites and cabins are located. Once we were briefed on bear safety (you know how I feel about bear safety so I was thrilled they do this), we proceeded up the hill toward Scandinave Spa to find our yurt. Tucked into the trees to the left and the right of the road are the wooden-framed, canvas-covered yurts. I was excited to check out these cool structures!
I opened the door and was surprised how much natural light was inside thanks to two big windows and a skylight at the peak of the yurt that opens up. Inside we found a double bed with a single bunk above it plus a day bed with trundle, which means each yurt can sleep up to five people. There’s a dining table inside, plenty of bedding, and it even has heat and electricity – my kind of camping!
We spent the evening relaxing, chatting and reading – the ultimate staycation. Even though Riverside Resorts has free wifi, we chose to disconnect and enjoy short luxury camping getaway.
In the morning we headed to Riverside Café which opens at 7am and has such yummy breakfasts and lunches. I love that they have lots of gluten-free and dairy-free options available, too. Riverside also has a small convenience store on site. If you’re looking for dinner, you’re on your own to make it (hey, you’re camping after all) or you can take the more luxurious option and head into Whistler village for a bite.
Families will be happy to learn there’s a fun playground for kids and also a large grassy outdoor area for volleyball and other activities. This is seriously such a great family-friendly accommodation option in Whistler. Be sure to make time to explore Whistler’s lakes, too!
If you’re looking for fun things to do and places to stay in beautiful Whistler on your summer vacation, and are looking for an alternative to staying in a hotel, these unique yurts need to be on your bucket list. Riverside Resort has all your essentials for glamping, and we are already planning a return weekend getaway with the kids.
